Our Father in Heaven

I was driving earlier with my mom and we were listening to the news. After a few minutes, she turned it off, frustrated. I don’t blame her. Everything seems to be getting worse, not necessarily the virus itself but the effects it’s having on the economy and the nation overall. There is barely a glimmer of hope on the horizon as far as the news is concerned.
Anyone else feel scared and lost? I mean, what in the world is going on?! Our entire world was turned upside down over the course of a few weeks and now it doesn’t look like things will return to normal for a long time.
Who can we run to when everything is falling apart? Our parents have no control over what is going on and they are as new to this “panic” as we are. Our friends are stuck in their houses and Zoom calls just don’t seem to cut it. Our little conveniences that we took for granted— going out to eat, human interaction, Starbucks, etc— are no longer there to distract us.
Yet, we tend to forget the one person who waits for us to run back to Him.
Our Father.
The Bible says in John 1:12 that, “To all who did receive him [God], to those [us] who believed in his name, He gave the right to become children of God.” Most of you have probably been told that you are a “child of God.” To some of you, that picture is very pleasant. To others of you, it is not. Our perception of God greatly depends on our relationships with the people in our lives—more specifically our parents.
Right now I am asking you to leave all of your associations of God at the door. Right now, He is someone who offered you a gift. You took that gift and believed that it was truly yours. With your acceptance of that gift, you were welcomed by that someone with open arms. Regardless of all the failures of people in your own life, you believe Him when He promises to protect you. He treats you like his own flesh and blood; once you are His, He won’t let you go. He will always fight for you. He, my friends, is your Heavenly Father.
Fast forward to right now. You have no one left to run to and the world is crumbling at your feet. But in the back of your mind, you remember that someone who promised to always fight for you. Not just any someone, but the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE! He has control over the big picture, and He promises to hold our hands through the bumps in the road.
When all hope seems lost, cry to the one who knows the number of hairs on your head and can call the stars by name! He is not the cause of this madness, but He is the only true cure.
Abba, Father! We need you. And we know, God, that no matter what is going on in this world right now, you’ve got this!
