Start Your Engines!

“God will not move a parked car, he will tow it. So, put your faith in drive.”

A counselor at my summer camp said this to us one beautiful morning in Missouri. We were talking about how God moves mountains for His faithful people (see Matthew 11:23-24… God promises that mountains will move). The keyword? Faithful. Although God loves every person equally, He tells us in Mark 9:23 that “all things are possible for one who believes.” Our faith is what sets us apart, as well as sets us up to live a life of endless possibilities that are found in the Lord.

What does it mean to put your faith in drive? Well, first you need to turn on the car. That all starts when you come to Christ. What about those of us who’ve accepted Christ, but still feel like our faith is in park? Now is the time to hit the gas and shift gears. It’s up to you how “fast” you want to drive your faith. Try praying, reading your Bible, and worshipping on a daily basis. But Savannah, my faith is low on gas—what do I do now? Fill up your tank! One of the greatest ways to reignite your faith is by talking with a mentor. They will be able to provide wisdom about their walk with Christ, as well as encourage you in your own walk.

I feel the need to mention that just because your faith is like a car, does NOT mean your spiritual journey is a race. Everyone’s faith is different—that’s what makes up the diversity found in the body of believers. Some people will be further along than others, while some are still figuring out how to shift gears. Some might not even be in the car yet, but that doesn’t make your faith less important. In Matthew 17:20, we are told that the size of our faith doesn’t affect what we can or cannot do: “He said to them, ‘Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.’”

God doesn’t say that only the “super faithful” can perform miracles or move mountains, the people who have the smallest faith can do so as well! How incredible is that! God is making a way for you, no matter the amount of faith you have right now. So, today I encourage you, turn on the engine and put your faith in drive: God has so much in store for you!
