But What If...

Have you ever come to a decision that took a lot of prayer and thought? When you make the decision, you are confident that it is the right one after weighing the pro and cons. But once you make that decision, do you immediately begin to doubt it? I know I have done that! A million thoughts run through our heads. What if how I felt about something two days ago changes? What if I passed up an opportunity? What if my life will look completely different as a result? What if I regret this decision for the rest of my life?

What if…

As humans, it is naturual for us to doubt. I make decisions every day that I feel great about until after the fact. Immediately, I start to question everything and worry sets into my head and heart. It’s not pleasant. In the Bible, God tells us not to worry about anything. But that’s hard, especially when we want things to go right in our lives, and we want to be in control.

There are two verses in the Bible that are very applicable to the concept of doubting our decisions in life.

The first is Pslam 37:5- “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” We are not perfect, but we are given the opportunity to trust in the one who is. And the reality of life is that we will make the wrong decisions sometimes; however, if we approach each choice having already given it to God, even if the choice is not the right one, God “will act” to bring something different and better into our lives if we trust in Him.

The second verse is Psalm 23:3- “He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for the sake of His name.” When we feel like we have ruined everything or that our lives are beyond repair, God is there to rebuild us. When we feel lost and alone because something went wrong or we are drowing in fear and doubt, God is our guide. Even when we feel like He isn’t there or we are too far gone, He’s got us.

Are you guys ready for a challenge? The next time you start to worry or dout, thank God. Thank God for the possibility of a road He is paving for you that you weren’t planning on. Thank Him for the hard days that might be up ahead because God does his best work in us in times of hardship. Thank God, that our choices don’t define us, but that it is His love that does. I love you all, keep your heads held high, and hold out hope in every situation, no matter how hard it gets. God’s Got This!
