Love: Part 2

Kindness is the act of being generous, friendly, and considerate. When we think of love, kindness is usually one of the first words to pop into our heads. It is no question that kindness is an extension of love.

A lot of times when people use the word kind, they are describing an act of someone doing something that isn’t common. I think of times when people give someone a very generous gift or show up to their house to give them food when you’re sick and one of the most common responses is “that was very kind”.

Kind is not just the normal “how are you doing”, “I hope life is going well”, or whatnot. The kindness that is rooted in the deep love of Christ is something that is abnormal in this world. It is a part from it.

This isn’t just something that people always want, either, it is something we need. I remember my pastor giving a sermon a while back talking about what biblical kindness is. One of the aspects of biblical kindness is helping someone to recognize the wrongs they’ve done, calling someone out when they need to be called out, and setting things right with another person even if it costs the relationship.

When someone is kind to us or when we are kind to them, it won’t always feel good. But, it will be what we or they need.

”Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?” (Romans 2:4)

Christ’s kindness brings us to repentance. Christ’s kindness puts us where we need to be with him. Christ’s kindness is gracious and merciful yet is firm with us when we need a firm hand to bring us closer to Christ and to repentance.

So show your love to others by bringing them a Christ-like kindness. Show generosity, compassion, friendliness, and even accountability and a word of reminder to yourself and to your brothers and sisters in Christ to help bring you and them to the altar of God.
