Hard to Understand

Written by Brian Brogan

I’ve recently been listening to Mumford and sons non stop (because who doesn’t) and a lyric stuck out to me that I’d never really noticed.

“She says the Lord has a plan

But admits it's pretty hard to understand” (Beloved by Mumford and Sons)

Let’s be honest, there’s possibly not a more relatable song lyric in the world. Also, has there ever been a time in our lives that this hasn’t been so applicable to our lives? Unemployment is historically at an all-time low, businesses are having to close permanently because they can’t keep up staying out of operation for so long, school is online and seniors aren’t just concerned about not walking but possibly not starting college in the fall, and for Pete’s sake where did all the toilet paper go?!

But tell me, has your relationship with your family improved? Mine surely has, and it was one that was good before the virus but now is thriving! Have you finally started that one thing you said you were always gonna do but never had the time? I finally started learning to cook (being taught by my mom) and building furniture (being taught by my stepdad)!

Watching the news, a story came on where parents and children were drawing and writing down all the things they’re never going to take for granted again. And not just are people howling for our healthcare workers in hospitals and officers on the street, but now for the janitors and facilities workers who are constantly disinfecting essential places to keep them safe. Did God just make the U.S. a more thankful and grateful nation?

It sounds to me that the Lord has a plan, and there’s never been a better time to scream out the truth that there is no weapon, no virus, formed against us that will prosper. Yes, are there days when the weight is heavy and all we feel like we can do is complain and yearn for our friends and connection to God? Yes. But He wants your true heart, so give it to Him. Don’t attempt to withhold anything for He already knows.

Our God is one of provision, and even in this season of isolation and separation, He does have a plan, and though we admit it’s pretty hard to understand, let’s wait expectantly on the miracles that are coming.
