Brutally Honest

If I’m being brutally honest, it’s been tough recently. Even with all this time on our hands, I’ve found it difficult to set time apart to pray, to read the word, to set my time aside for God. It’s tough to even find out that the middle schoolers that I’m trying to lead and mentor are reading the Bible every day and I’m not.
Today was a bit of a wake-up call. Listening to my Bible teacher’s devotional this morning, the last one that we’d have in the class for our senior year, she put a lot of my spiritual life into perspective.
The armor we wear, our armor of God, is something to not just be worn in church, on a missions trip, in your youth group, it’s something to be worn constantly, daily. As the flaming arrows fly towards us from the enemy, we shouldn’t be caught with our feet not implanted in the gospel, our shields not at the ready of defense, and our swords of truth prepared to counter after the attack.
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
(Psalms 119:11 NIV)
This morning I got up, opened my Bible, and started from the beginning. It sometimes baffles me what God can do when we simply open up His Word and read. The effect it has on our hearts as we go throughout the rest of the day, each day, is drastic.
Don’t let anything drag the word from your heart. Let it rest there. Let nothing disturb it. Keep it deep within your heart like a seed to cultivate and grow and grow to sanctify you into a “little Christ”.
So let the armor you wear shine, and the Word of God take hold within your heart and allow Him to protect you and cultivate a heart of love and service.
