The Sanctity of a Morning

Mornings can be dreadful. As students, people who wake up to go to work, or like my mother who sometimes has conference calls at home at 6:00 am, mornings sometimes feel like the bane of our existence. Having to wake up still with exhaustion in our eyes and tiredness in our limbs, it isn’t quite so fun.
We make jokes about “Monday Mornings” being the absolute “worst”. The weekend is gone, now the week begins again, and we have to wake with the sun.
Now I’m usually not a morning person by any stretch. I’m usually up all night and will get out of bed at the last possible second I can. But out of this time at home, I’ve spent the last couple of days getting up earlier than I had when I went to school. I’ve set a limit to go to bed at 10:30 the night before to be able to rise with the sun around 6:30 so that I may begin the day with the Word of God, a song called “Morning Song” by Antoine Bradford, and reading from my book I’m currently enjoying: The Fellowship of the Ring, as I sit on my back porch watching the sunrise.
I know I started with how painful mornings usually are, but the Bible has something so contradictory to this ideology. Here are just a few verses about the morning:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch. (Psalm 5:3)
For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. (Psalm 30:5)
But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress. (Psalm 59:60)
In the morning, His mercies are new. In the morning, He listens to our voices. In the morning, He brings us joy. And because of this, in the morning, we will sing of His Love.
How blessed be the morning that touches upon us each and every day. The sanctity of the sun rising should be a reminder of The Son rising. His love is never-ending, mercies never ceasing, joy always abounding. But one of the most important things of the morning is entering His Word:
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. (Psalms 143:8)
We possess this Word, this hope, this direction in Word and Spirit. Let us honor God, love God, and worship God through rising not just with the sun, but with His mercies and love and joy and everything that comes with it. Let us enter into His Word each morning as a reminder of who He is so that we may have Word of His unfailing love every day, we’ll put our trust in Him every day, and we may follow Him... every day.
